From Mundane to Magnificent: Nadine Ghosn's Vision Transforms the Everyday
Jewelry designer to the stars, Nadine Ghosn made her mark with her quirky creations, and her watch collection is just as fabulous
After leaving her job at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) at the age of 25 to work for Hermès, Nadine Ghosn rediscovered her passion for jewelry. It happened by chance – when she found herself on a business trip in Lebanon, where, while hunting for jewels for her sister, she discovered an atelier that was struggling to make ends meet. Ghosn’s insatiable hunger for knowledge led her to partner with these craftsmen and learn the trade from them. And so she had arrived at a metaphorical crossroads of sorts – there would be no returning to BCG or heading the jewelry arm of Hermès in Asia Pacific, for something more magical awaited her. Eventually, Ghosn decided to harness her newfound passion and channel it into something extraordinary – and that’s the story of how Nadine Ghosn Jewellery was born.
Soon after Ghosn launched her brand, her quirky, functional, and humorous pieces were adorning some of the most prominent personalities the world of fashion and entertainment had known, including the late Karl Lagerfeld, Beyoncé, Lil Yachty, Drake and Pharrell Williams. Yet, she remains ever so humble, “I’m always a student – a perpetual learner,” she says. But make no mistake, with her whimsically stackable burger rings, bracelets shaped into bicycle chains, paper clips, and pencils, Ghosn declared a new era in jewelry design that challenged the sanitized and self-serious view of the craft often propagated by the legacy maisons. “Every collection [of mine] is a completely different thing,” she explains, “which is a huge risk.”
“I’m always a student – a perpetual learner.”
It becomes clear as day, upon trying any of Ghosn’s jewels, that their creator is a multifaceted, multitalented, and forever curious scholar of art and culture. “I'm always trying to put myself in different experiences to push myself out of my comfort zone,” she explains. So, it comes as no surprise that she has an affinity for watches too. “I’ve loved watches ever since I was a child,” she says, “Honestly what I realized as I grew older was that I wouldn't notice people, but, instead, notice the watches they were wearing – someone would come into a meeting, and I’d be like, ‘this is a guy with a TAG’ or ‘this is a guy with Vacheron’.”
“I'm always trying to put myself in different experiences to push myself out of my comfort zone.”
Jewelry aside, Ghosn herself has a preference for larger, more “masculine” watches that are both bold and colorful. One of her favorites, for example, is the Audemars Piguet Rainbow Skeleton in frosted rose gold, which she cheekily calls “discreet and super not obvious.” She also tells us she owns a rose gold Patek Philippe with a brown dial, which she describes as an “elegant” yet practical piece thanks to the mirror inside its date window. “It helps when you have something stuck in your teeth,” she laughs, explaining, “I was on a date once and kept checking [myself in that tiny mirror] to make sure everything was fine, and he started asking me if I was in a rush to leave.”
Whether through her jewelry creations or watch collection, Ghosn has earned herself a spot in the ranks of those who shape the culture of tomorrow. We could only hope to one day see a timepiece shaped into something positively outrageous under her authorship.
