About the Model
This Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona features a 40mm Oystersteel case that houses a simple yet charming white dial. This Daytona comes paired with an Oyster bracelet that finds an amazing contrast with a black Cerachrom bezel with a tachymetric scale. With this scale, the wearer can easily measure average speeds of up to 400 units, either in miles or kilometers.
The white dial of this Daytona features snailed counters, gold applique hour markers, and hands with a Chromalight display. With the central sweep seconds hands, the wearer can accurately read 1/8 second and the two counters on the dial show the lapsed time in hours and minutes. This reference is water-resistant up to 100 meters and is driven by the Manufacture Rolex 4130 automatic movement, which achieves a power reserve of around 72 hours.
Known for models such as the Submariner, GMT Master, and the Cosmograph Daytona, Rolex has long been considered a collector’s essential. Although it’s the world's largest manufacturer of luxury Swiss chronometers today, it was born into humble beginnings as a timepiece distributor in London, established by the 24-year-old Hans Wilsdorf in 1905. He eventually trademarked the name Rolex in 1908 and relocated its headquarters to Geneva, where Rolex is still based today.
At a time when wristwatches were but a whimsical daydream, Wilsdorf anticipated them to be worn on the wrist someday and therefore set out on a mission to make the most accurate and dependable tool watches for professionals.
