The 1970s was the decade of transformation and changes and the period of the advent of the quartz watch that caused a big stir in the watch industry. It also gave birth to remarkable designs with striking looks and functionalities. Among these is the innovative original 1976 Girard Perregaux “Casquette” and its driver-type LED display. Like many popular timepieces, the nickname “Casquette” was given to the references 9931/34/39 by collectors. 8200 pieces were produced within the span of 3 years, and nearly five decades later, this emblematic creation is now back in a modern reiteration. The Casquette 2.0 is built with a tubular display that allows for very clear legibility. For 2022, Girard Perregaux is formally adopting the name Casquette and the design is a big nod to its predecessor. The case is made from ceramic and has a titanium caseback and pushers, with the inclusion of a retro GP logo in titanium that is set to the case. Casquette 2.0 is very much a current decade re-imagining of the 70s icon, a timepiece for the futuristic retro fans.
