One of the hottest skeleton watches on the market, Moser's latest launch offers their impressive cylindrical hairspring and one-minute flying tourbillon combination in regular production for the very first time

H. Moser & Cie.'s Pioneer Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Ref. 3811-1200 is a technical timepiece that takes pride in the splendor of its three-dimensional movement architecture. The new skeletonized design adds to the overall dramatic look of the watch, which comes housed in a steel case. Its one-minute flying tourbillon equipped with a cylindrical hairspring is a splendid implementation that quickly grabs your attention.

The grace and precision of the one-minute flying tourbillon at 6 o'clock has been coupled with a small, domed subdial at 12 o'clock. This skeletonized timepiece follows the success of H. Moser & Cie. x MB&F Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon - a collaborative timepiece launched in 2020, highlighting a one-minute flying tourbillon above the main dial through a ventricular opening appearing at 12 o'clock.

"Moser is a small company, but we make a huge variety of components to a very high standard, using a wide range of processing technology," says Simon Blum, Head of Component Production at Moser. Let's explore the new Pioneer model, which helps the brand enter the skeleton watch segment.

Pioneering Three Dimensions

Protected by a 42.8mm steel case, the Pioneer Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Ref. 3811-1200 is an adventurous timepiece that showcases the three-dimensional HMC 811 movement. The decorous engine has a diameter of 34mm and has been meticulously put together by the teams at Precision Engineering AG, H. Moser & Cie.'s sister company, as each cylindrical hairspring has been shaped by hand.

The skeleton model of the HMC 811 calibre features a gold, fully skeletonized oscillating weight. Enhancing the movement is the flying tourbillon, which spins under the sapphire crystal. Oscillating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, the movement has 171 components and delivers a power reserve of around 74 hours. Its cylindrical hairspring has been fitted with two Breguet curves and it features an automatic bi-directional pawl winding system. The main plate and the chamfered bridges of the movement have been coated in anthracite PVD, adding depth to its design.

The steel case, which is water-resistant upto 120 meters, comes paired with a black alligator leather strap, but the timepiece is also offered on a steel, rubber, textile, or kudu leather strap. The case also features a screw-in crown embellished with an engraved M and comes with a see-through caseback. The Funky Blue fumé domed subdial with sunburst pattern at 12 o'clock shows the hour and minute hands with Globolight® inserts.

Fit for all occasions, the versatile Pioneer collection offers some robust timepieces that offer suave designs, be it the Pioneer Perpetual Calendar MD in steel with Burgundy fumé dial or the Pioneer Tourbillon Mega Cool in steel and Blue Lagoon fumé dial. The all-rounder pieces in the collection illustrate the codes of haute horlogerie with their practicality, precision, and panache.
