WRISTCHECK X SECONDE/SECONDE/ X ATELIER WEN PERCEPTION "锔瓷" SPECIAL EDITION

A Celebration of Resilience and Redemption

The story begins with the Wristcheck x Atelier Wen Perception "传承" Special Edition, launched in 2022 and selling out immediately upon release. Among its standout features was the jade green guilloché dial, meticulously crafted by Master Cheng, China's sole master guilloché craftsman. Each dial underwent rigorous scrutiny, and any slight irregularity would result in rejection. These rejected dials, which Cheng marked with a single cut, carried the weight of wasted hours and a craftsman’s pride. In the making of last year’s Wristcheck x Atelier Wen Perception “传承” Special Edition of 100 pieces, exactly 36 dials were rejected, each deviating marginally from perfection, otherwise to be discarded.

Recognizing the potential within these rejected dials, Austen Chu, our CEO and co-founder, sought the artistic vision of Romaric André, also known as seconde/seconde/. André saw an opportunity to reverse the destruction process and transform these dials into something beautiful.

Now, in 2023, we proudly present the WRISTCHECK X SECONDE/SECONDE/ X ATELIER WEN PERCEPTION "锔瓷" SPECIAL EDITION, limited to just 36 pieces.

Finding beauty in imperfection

Each of the 36 dials has been "healed" by seconde/seconde/, with three cross-stitches in pure 24K gold and matching gold hands. These stitches, reminiscent of the ancient Chinese technique "锔瓷" (jū cí) used to mend Celadon porcelains, pay homage to traditional crafts while restoring the dial. As the lacerations were cut at different areas by Master Cheng, every dial is truly unique.

In a bold twist, these dials bear no Atelier Wen branding – a ‘punishment’ enforced by seconde/seconde/. Marked with “Rejected → ⧖ → Praised” and the watch’s serial on its semi-display caseback, the only branding, albeit discrete in itself, appears on the watch’s rotor – where Wristcheck, Atelier Wen, and seconde/seconde/ logos are laser-engraved and filled with blue ink that, at certain angles, blends in with the green of the rotor.

These 36 unique timepieces symbolize the journey from rejection to redemption, reflecting the restored pride of Master Cheng and the resilience required of the process. They embody the profound idea of finding beauty in imperfection, celebrating the artistry that emerges from embracing flaws.
