Montblanc

Increasingly well-known for its travel luggage and vintage-inspired watchmaking, Montblanc was founded in Hamburg in 1906 by engineer August Eberstein and financier Alfred Nehemias.

Named for the tallest mountain in Western Europe, the brand initially came to prominence for its high-quality writing instruments; with Eberstein and Nehemias launching the popular Meisterstück line in 1924.

Now a subsidiary of the Richemont Group, Montblanc is currently helmed by CEO Nicolas Baretzki, who has been instrumental in appointing high-profile ambassadors such as actor Cillian Murphy and renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja.

Though traditionally thought of as a maker of fine pens, Montblanc has emerged as an interesting force in the watch industry over the last decade. Initially a private German-owned company, it was acquired by British luxury firm Dunhill in 1977: resulting in the inception of a wide array of product lines including luggage, leather goods, and accessories.

Following the brand’s sale to Richemont in 1977, a concerted push began to transform Montblanc into a legitimate watch manufacture - something that became possible with the purchase of the legendary Minerva factory back in 2006.
