Louis Erard

A native of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Louis Erard established his namesake watch company in 1929. By the 1950s, he had obtained the necessary approvals to begin producing movements under the Louis Erard brand name, focusing on thin movements for dress watches.

Erard’s grandson Paul is notable for having restructured the company in 1987. A year later, Louis Erard debuted the Newton - a new line of dress watches utilizing an unusual variation on the Peseux 7001 movement that remains exclusive to the brand until this day. 

Created by the eponymous watchmaker in 1929, much of Louis Erard’s history in the early 20th century centers on its role as a technical school and casing company in La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 1992, following its acquisition by the Bӧlzi family, the brand was relocated to Le Noirmont in Jura - at the heart of Switzerland’s renowned “Watch Valley.”

Offering a strong value proposition across all its collections, the brand has gained significant traction in the past decade - mainly through strategic collaboration with influential figures in the watch collecting space, such as master watchmaker Vianney Halter and William Massena.

The brand’s most emblematic design is its Régulateur, a style of watch steeped in 18th-century chronometry in which the hour, minute, and seconds hands pivot around separate points.
