The IWC Portugieser Automatic 42 (ref. IW501702) refines one of the brand’s most recognisable lines with updated proportions and a pared-down elegance. Released in 2024 as the successor to the IW5007 generation, this reference preserves the Portugieser's maritime roots while delivering improved wearability through a more compact form.

Housed in a 42.4mm stainless-steel case with a height of just 12.9mm, the watch is powered by the automatic calibre 52011 – an evolved version of the calibre 52010, previously featured in IWC's Big Pilot G-Wagon editions. The silver-plated dial showcases a symmetrical 7-day power reserve display at 3 o’clock and small seconds at 9, with applied numerals and railway-track minute markers anchoring its refined layout. The movement features IWC’s Pellaton winding system and a double barrel, offering increased autonomy and robustness.

With its clean dial, improved proportions and in-house movement, the IW501702 continues the Portugieser legacy in a form better suited to daily rotation. It offers both the visual clarity of a classic dress watch and technical depth rooted in naval chronometry.
