Introducing Zenith’s New Chronomaster Sport and Chronomaster Open
At Watches and Wonders 2022, Zenith showcases new references for Chronomaster Sport and Chronomaster Open models - both promising contemporary forms and functions
Zenith has just expanded its Chronomaster lineup with a number of variations available in the Chronomaster Sport and the Chronomaster Open models. While the Chronomaster Sport enjoys a material upgrade with two references crafted entirely in rose gold, the Chronomaster Open shows off a partially open dial to reveal the regulating organ and escapement.
The four references of the new Chronomaster Sport offer a splendid mix of tones and textures. "In just one year, the Chronomaster Sport has catapulted into becoming one of the most sought-after modern chronograph watches, as well as a significant pillar for Zenith that brings together our unique know-how in high-frequency chronographs with a distinctive aesthetic direction. We're pleased to expand the collection with new versions and materials that bring another dimension to the Chronomaster Sport," says Zenith CEO Julien Tornare.
The new Chronomaster Open is available in three variations - two in steel and one in rose gold. Its round case now measures 39.5mm in diameter, compared to the previous 42mm model. The timepiece also flaunts slimmer lugs and its pump-style pushers now feature rounded tips. The new Sport and Open references pay homage to Zenith's past, yet offer a contemporary execution. Let's explore the two new Chronomaster models, pushing boundaries and mastering fractions of the second.
Chronomaster Sport
Introduced in 2021, the series welcomes four new references - Ref. 51.3100.3600/69.M3100 in steel and 18k rose gold with a silver-toned sunray-patterned dial, Ref. 18.3101.3600/21.M3100 in 18k rose gold with a black-lacquered dial, Ref. 18.3101.3600/69.M3100 in 18k rose gold with a matte white dial, and Ref. 03.3103.3600/69.M3100 in stainless steel with a silver-toned sunray-patterned dial.

All four references have Zenith's signature El Primero tri-colour counters and a tiny date display. While the rose gold model has been fully crafted in the material, be it its body, bracelet or bezel, the two-tone model brings together the resilience of steel and elegance of rose gold and has been offered on a stainless steel and rose gold bracelet. The stainless steel reference – the Boutique Edition – comes paired with a metal bracelet and has been presented with an engraved tri-colour ceramic bezel, matching the colours of the dial's registers.

All four 41mm references are water resistant upto 100 meters and are driven by the El Primero 3600 automatic movement, operating at a frequency 5Hz. This engine measures 1/10th of a second and achieves a power reserve of approximately 60 hours.
Chronomaster Open
When the original Chronomaster Open was released in 2013, it was celebrated by the community for its quirky dial implementation - a partially open dial bringing out in the open the regulating organ and escapement. This year’s Chronomaster Open revisits the famous tri-colour dial configuration that debuted with the iconic A386 in 1969. To deliver this facelift, Zenith did not cut out the small seconds counter at 9 o'clock completely, as it did with the previous generations of the Chronomaster Open. The craftspeople at the manufacture decided to include circular openings with chamfered edges.

The Chronomaster Open is available in steel with a white or black dial, offered on either a steel bracelet or a cordura-effect rubber strap. Its rose gold version houses a white dial and comes paired with a blue calfskin leather strap. There is also a boutique-exclusive edition in steel with a blue dial and steel bracelet.

Visible through the sapphire caseback, the El Primero 3604 1/10th of a second automatic chronograph movement is a revamped version of the 3600 that debuted in the Chronomaster Sport. The automatic winding mechanism with an open star-shaped oscillating mass efficiently delivers a power reserve of 60 hours and operates at a frequency of 5Hz.
