Wristcheck's first collaboration with Studio Underd0g is full of easter eggs
The cat is out of the bag at long last! We’re eggcited to announce our eggsclusive collaboration with independent British watchmaker Studio Underd0g. Arriving just in time for the holiday season, “The Uneggspected Series” is the first limited edition collection of the brand-new Generation 3 of Studio Underd0g's 01SERIES chronograph. Only available on wristcheck.com starting December 5th, 2024.
Incorporating Studio Underd0g's distinct and whimsical design philosophy that draws inspiration from various foods, Wristcheck's latest collaborative limited edition, The Uneggspected Series, infuses the brand’s flagship chronograph with a playful twist inspired by the one staple in all cuisines – the humble but almighty egg. The collection features three models: the B0iled Egg, Fried Egg, and R0tten Egg, limited to 200 pieces for the first two and 90 for the latter. Elevating the everyday to the extraordinary, we thought it was about time someone reimagined the purpose of a chronograph.
Let’s be honest, how many people are really tracking their lap times with their chronograph these days? It’s time to celebrate a new era for the chronograph complication, one that will lead to perfectly cooked eggs, every time!
Chicken or The Egg?
The idea for this collaboration hatched from a conversation between our founder, Austen Chu, and Richard Benc of Studio Underd0g; their joint goal – to shake up the watch industry. From the onset, it was never just about a product, but rather a case study on revolutionizing watch ownership in general (a How to Change The Game 101, if you will). As Studio Underd0g is known for its carefully calibrated harmony of quality and light-hearted sensibilities, and since Wristcheck has always carried its uncompromising approach to transparency with pride, this partnership emerges as an eggcellent opportunity to lead by example.
Building on the success of Wristcheck’s previous limited editions, we remain committed to our tradition of introducing unique timepieces that our community eagerly anticipates each year. I’m excited to finally launch this collaboration with Studio Underd0g after a year of behind-the-scenes work. My hope is that this collection will champion creativity, accessibility, and inclusivity in the watch world, inspiring enthusiasts to embrace the lighter side of collecting and appreciate the whimsy that makes this hobby truly enjoyable.
A New Generation of The 01SERIES
And yet, a big part of this statement comes down to the watches themselves. Generation 3 of the 01SERIES improves on its predecessor with new features.
Retaining the sturdy 38.5mm case in robust 316L stainless steel, the new generation is blessed with a more streamlined silhouette at only 12.9mm, compared to the 13.6mm thickness in Gen 2. The revamped screw-down caseback offers a better view of its inner workings, revealing the brand new ST-1901B manual-winding caliber, developed by Studio Underd0g in collaboration with Seagull.
Elegant yet powerful, the ST-1901B movement features a sleek, jet-black main plate that showcases the bridges, wheels, and balance. It's not just for show – Studio Underd0g has also incorporated a silver swan neck regulator to allow for precise regulation. Each ST-1901B movement undergoes rigorous regulation in Great Britain, ensuring an impressive accuracy of -10/+15 seconds per day – an improvement from the previous range of -15/+35 seconds per day. Reflecting Studio Underd0g’s commitment to quality, each watch comes with a report card detailing its performance and the team members who assembled it.
Another new addition to Gen 3 is the stainless steel Milanese strap alongside The Strap Tailor’s premium leather one, equipped with quick-release spring bars. Each watch is also equipped with a central chronograph seconds hand, a 30-minute counter sub-dial, and a tachymeter scale around the edge of the base. Starting the chronograph is as simple as pressing the top pusher. Then, watch the central seconds hand sweep across the dial to track elapsed time. For longer intervals, the 30-minute counter will log your time. Resetting both counters to zero is seamless with just one smooth action on the bottom pusher.
Each model features a durable 38.5mm case made from 316L stainless steel, and a sapphire crystal. Super-LumiNova C3 ensures full legibility in low-light environments. The dials feature a satin sandblast base and a coarse dégradé top, with added tachymeter markings for both style and functionality.
