Hip-Hop Meets Haute Horlogerie: Travis Scott's Exclusive 'Chocolate AP' Watch Unveiled

To wrap up the year with a thumping win, Audemars Piguet has just dropped a banging new collab with Travis Scott. Crafted out of brown ceramic – a signature Cactus Jack color and a first for the brand – the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked Limited Edition is a nod to Scott’s fourth studio album Utopia released earlier this year.

While Audemars Piguet is not new to collabs with the world of hip hop, this is Scott’s first ever tie-up with a luxury watch brand. Moreover, this extraordinary partnership is not just limited to lending Scott’s aesthetic sensibilities to the iconic Royal Oak. The two brands have also worked together on a collection of hoodies, shorts, pajamas, caps and T-shirts, which will be sold exclusively on shop.travisscott.com. A part of the profits from the sale of this merchandise will be donated to a charity project or cause of Scott’s choice.

As expected, the new “Chocolate AP” borrows various design elements from Cactus Jack – right from the typography seen on the calendar and week indications to the design of the moon phase at 6 o’clock – the watch offers the best of both worlds. Set within the legendary octagonal case, the 41mm brown ceramic dial is enhanced with a special moon phase display showcasing Cactus Jack’s emblematic smiley face with its mouth sewn shut. While the calendar indications are coated with a green luminescent material, the moon phase glows blue in the dark. 

This sapphire dial gives an intriguing peek into the openworked architecture of Caliber 5135, composed of rhodium-toned components with pink-gold-toned hues. The hour, minute and counters hands, like the hour-markers inserted within the seconds scale, are crafted in gold and covered with brown PVD before being filled with a white luminescent material that turns blue in the dark. 

Offered on a new textured calfskin leather strap, the watch’s caseback is engraved with “Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar,” “Limited Edition of 200 Pieces” and “Utopia is a state of mind” in reference to Scott’s latest album.
