It’s with a heavy heart we bid farewell to these coveted Patek Philippe models, here’s our ever-so-tender obituary

This year, especially after Watches & Wonders, it becomes clear that the horological juggernaut Patek Philippe is, from now on, focusing more on sports watches and leaving the leather bracelets behind. The brand has trimmed down some of its most desirable collections, as it seems, to bare essentials.

Here a look at what’s discontinued…

Discontinued Patek Philippe Nautilus Models

Discontinued Patek Philippe Nautilus 5980/1R-001

Nautilus is, perhaps, one of the most desirable Patek Philippe collections – dizzying the seasoned collectors with its recognizable silhouette and serving as an “I made it” distinction for the starry-eyed aspirants. Nobody is implying that the whole collection was gutted, but the models that the maison will no longer be offering are 5712R-001, 5712G-001, 5980/1R-001, and 5980/1AR-001. It appears to be a case of survival of the fittest, as both variations featuring white and gold dials, with both metal bracelets and leather straps have disappeared.

Discontinued Patek Philippe Calatrava Models

Discontinued Patek Philippe Calatrava 7234-001

Fans of Calatrava were in for a shock, as Patek announced the dismissal of references 7234-001 and 7234G-001. 7234R-001 is a striking timepiece that seamlessly melds the sophistication of the Calatrava collection with the practicality of a dual time zone complication, making it a must-have for modern jet-setters. Part of the esteemed Calatrava lineup, this watch exudes a vintage aviation-inspired charm while staying true to the brand's unwavering dedication to precision and artistry. But let's not despair, for there is still a chance to acquire the larger models 5524R and 5524G, which feature larger dimensions at an impressive 42mm.

Discontinued Patek Philippe World Time 5230P-001

In the realm of haute horlogerie, few can compare to the craftsmanship and exquisite attention to detail found in the World Time ref. 5230P-001 by Patek Philippe, which, sadly, has been discontinued this year. This luxurious watch, measuring 38.5mm, is more than just a timepiece but a testament to sophistication achieved through precise engineering. Encased in platinum, the ref. 5230P-001 embodies the rich heritage of Patek Philippe. What truly sets this watch apart is its ability to display multiple time zones simultaneously, thanks to its intricate world-time complication. With a glance at the effervescent blue guilloché dial, one can effortlessly keep track of different cities around the globe.

Discontinued Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Models

Another shining example of Patek Philippe’s horological excellence will no longer remain in production – the coveted Annual Calendar ref. 5147G-001. With its regal white gold case and mesmerizing blue lacquered dial, this watch was the epitome of horological excellence and was discontinued after 18 years – not even two decades on the clock. We also bid farewell to the Annual Calendar ref. 5396 in both white and rose gold, which made its debut in 2006 – the same year Crash won Best Picture at the Oscars. This watch was a harmonious blend of Calatrava's classic charm and an annual calendar complication, making it a true gem that will be dearly missed by collectors around the world.
