Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Price Guide: What Every Reference Costs in 2026
Updated: July 2026.
When the Royal Oak appeared at the 1972 Basel fair, it cost nearly four times as much as the most expensive steel watch then on sale. Gérald Genta always said he drew the octagonal case in a single evening. Look closely and the eight hexagonal screws that define it are through-bolts, fastened by nuts from the caseback side. The gamble created the luxury sports watch. Today a color-dial diver and a frosted gold Mini wear the same octagon. The list below runs ten pre-owned Royal Oaks from least to most expensive, judged on wearability, movement quality, and staying power. It skips plenty of them, and every watch on it is authenticated in person before it ships.

1. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver 15710ST
The least expensive door into an octagonal case
The Offshore Diver 15710ST is where Royal Oak pricing starts on the pre-owned market in 2026. This blue-dialed version belongs to the "Funky Colours" series of 2017: AP had launched its Diver Chronograph in bright colors the year before, it sold far better than expected, and the palette jumped across to the time-only Diver in five shades.
Instead of a rotating outer bezel, which would have meant redrawing the octagon, the timing ring sits inside the case and turns via a second crown at 10 o'clock. For safety it only rotates counterclockwise, so a knock can shorten a dive, never extend one, and screwing the crown back down restores the full 300 m rating.
Inside runs the cal. 3120, the movement that carried AP's core watches for over a decade, its 22k gold rotor visible through the sapphire back this generation introduced. If this is your first AP, track down a sharp 15710ST across our Offshore Diver listings and check the color details: the blue runs yellow accents on the hands and inner flange, and a blue rubber cap on each crown.

2. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Quartz 67650ST
The flattest steel Royal Oak in the range runs on a battery
At 7.0 mm, the Royal Oak Quartz 33 is the thinnest steel Royal Oak in the current collection. That is more than a millimeter thinner than the "Jumbo" Extra-Thin, a watch whose whole reputation rests on being thin, and it is why this reference disappears under a shirt cuff.
The cal. 2713 gives up the mechanical romance, and with it most of the price of admission: this is the least expensive watch AP currently sells new, though a discontinued Offshore Diver undercuts it pre-owned. The 33 mm case is the same one AP chose for its first Frosted Gold collaboration in 2016. Try it on before you commit, since 33 mm with a bracelet flowing straight out of the case wears larger than the number reads.
The caseback is solid steel, so there is no rotor to admire and nothing to service beyond a battery. For a Royal Oak you put on without thinking about it, size up our Royal Oak Quartz 33 listings against the 34 mm automatic before deciding whether the movement matters more than the profile.

3. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph 26420SO
Ceramic where your fingers actually land
Look at where this Offshore gets touched: the crown and both chronograph pushers are solid black ceramic, screwed down and set into sandblasted steel guards. The "SO" in the reference is AP's code for exactly that steel-plus-ceramic recipe, and on the 2021-generation Offshore it pairs with a smoked brown dial and khaki strap that read more field than yacht club.
AP built the quick-release into the case studs and buckle instead of adding visible tabs, so straps swap tool-free while the silhouette stays untouched. The catch is that only AP-fitted straps lock in, so plan any aftermarket rotation around that.
AP's own flyback chronograph, the cal. 4401, does the timing here, and it turns up again in the 26240 below. At 43 mm and 14.4 mm tall this is the biggest watch in the guide, so compare strap options across our 26420SO listings with your wrist size in mind: the sandblasted guards add visual width beyond the case number.

4. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15400ST
The 41 mm that reset the Royal Oak's proportions
In 2012, the Royal Oak's 40th anniversary year, AP pushed its core three-hander from 39 mm to 41 mm and marked the occasion on the dial: the 15400 dropped the big logo at 12 for a double-baton index, the layout of the original 1972 ref. 5402. It set the template every 41 mm Royal Oak since has followed.
At 9.8 mm the 15400 remains the thinnest 41 mm three-hand Royal Oak made, because it carried over the compact cal. 3120 and not a movement sized for the case. The giveaway is at 3 o'clock, where a short stub index sits outboard of a date window pulled toward the dial's center. It is how collectors date the reference by eye.
Discontinued since 2019, the 15400 now works as the value route to a modern 41 mm Royal Oak, and pre-owned is the only place to find one. Shortlist a clean 15400ST from our current stock and put it beside the 15510 below. Same 41 mm footprint, and the 15400 sits 0.7 mm flatter.

The current 41, and the rotor is the dating tell
Turn a 15510 over before you buy it. References .01 through .05, built in 2022, carry an openworked 22k gold "50 years" anniversary rotor; the .06 through .10 that followed from 2023, this silver-dialed .08 among them, revert to the standard weight. AP tied the commemorative rotor to a hard calendar date, the end of 2022, so the caseback settles the build era at a glance.
The 15510 otherwise refines the 15500 instead of replacing it: same cal. 4302, same 41 mm case. The visible changes are a bracelet whose first links turn trapezoid for a closer drape, and a dial whose Grande Tapisserie pattern now runs clear to the edge, with the old flat minute-track border deleted.
That makes the caseback the main thing separating otherwise identical listings, so read the suffix before the dial across our authenticated 15510ST listings, where we photograph the movement side of every example. Anniversary-rotor examples of the same dial carry their own premium.

6. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 37 15550ST
Where 41 mm stops being the default
Is 41 mm actually the default Royal Oak? AP has quietly built the case against it since 2012, when the 37 mm line launched as unisex from day one. The 15550 of 2022 is that idea matured: a case most wrists can wear, with this gray-dialed version sitting closest to the 1972 original's steel-on-steel restraint.
The cal. 5900 runs 188 parts against the 280 of the old cal. 3120, beats faster at 4 Hz, and shaves the case to 9.1 mm. One thing to know before you handle one: the 15550 uses a pull-out crown where its predecessor screwed down, so the crown spins freely at rest and is meant to.
The AP wordmark at 12 is grown from layers of 24k gold by galvanic deposition, not printed on. If the 41 mm entries above read large, try the 37 mm case in our 15550 listings before assuming it wears small. At 9.1 mm it sits flatter than any of them as well as smaller.

7. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph 26240ST
Twenty-five years of borrowed movements, ended
For 25 years the Royal Oak Chronograph ran on borrowed time. From the 1997 original through the ref. 26331, every generation used the cal. 2385, an ébauche built on a Frédéric Piguet base that Blancpain and Vacheron Constantin also bought. The 26240 of 2022 ended that: the cal. 4401 is AP's own integrated chronograph, with a column wheel, a vertical clutch, and a flyback function that restarts timing with a single press instead of three.
Fitting the cal. 4401 pushed the case to 12.4 mm, and the dial swapped the old two-tone "panda" layout for three evenly sized, snailed counters in the dial color, running seconds relocating to 6 o'clock. Next to the 26331 it reads noticeably calmer.
The 15510's rotor rule does not transfer cleanly here: the suffix blocks differ, and this silver .07 carries the standard weight. Set our 26240ST chronographs against the three-handers above before you commit: an integrated chronograph is the more involved watch to service, and its 70-hour reserve matches the 4302's.

8. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 34 Ceramic 77350CE
A Royal Oak that has to be finished with diamond tools
Black ceramic starts as zirconium-oxide powder, gets sintered at around 1,400 °C, and shrinks by roughly a quarter as it hardens into something only diamond tooling can cut. AP still insists on the Royal Oak's alternating satin-brushed flats and polished chamfers in that material, across the case and every bracelet link, which is why ceramic Royal Oaks cost what they do.
The 77350CE brought that treatment to a time-only watch for the first time. Full-ceramic Royal Oaks began with the Perpetual Calendar 26579CE in 2017; until this 34 mm arrived in 2021, the material was reserved for complications. Two warm details break the monochrome: the bezel screws are pink gold rather than the usual white, and a titanium caseback frames the sapphire window onto the cal. 5800.
At 34 mm and 8.8 mm thick it wears as the compact, modern face of the range, and scratches are a near non-issue in daily wear. Under angled light the brushed-to-polished transitions are where the machining shows, so study the finishing on our ceramic 77350CE up close and check that they repeat on every link of the bracelet.

9. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Mini Frosted Gold 67630OR
Pavé sparkle without a single stone set
Frosted Gold began as a collaboration. In 2016 AP brought in Carolina Bucci, a fourth-generation Florentine jeweler whose family workshop is ten years younger than AP itself, to mark 40 years of the ladies' Royal Oak. Her technique drives thousands of microscopic indentations into the gold with a diamond-tipped tool, so the metal alone glitters like a pavé setting.
The 2024 Mini shrinks that finish onto a 23 mm case and bracelet in pink gold. AP has said self-winding efficiency falls away below roughly 29 mm, which is why this one gets the quartz cal. 2730, good for about eight years per battery. The dial keeps the family signature at reduced scale, a tone-on-tone Petite Tapisserie rather than the larger models' Grande pattern.
Small Royal Oaks have their own lineage, back to the 20 mm Mini of 1997, and the current appetite for small watches has kept this one in demand. Hammered finishes are also the hardest to assess from photographs, so take your time with our authenticated Mini Frosted listings: the frosting should read even across case and bracelet, with crisp polished bevels on the octagon.

10. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak "Jumbo" Extra-Thin 16202ST
The 1972 blue, mixed to the original factory recipe
The dial name on this watch is a production note from 1972. "Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50" records how dialmaker Stern achieved the original ref. 5402's dark blue: black pigment number 50, added to the protective varnish. The 16202 wears that exact shade at the same 39 mm AP has held to since Basel 1972.
This is the reference where the "Jumbo" line changed engines. The outgoing cal. 2121 descended from a 1967 Jaeger-LeCoultre ébauche that JLC never used itself and instead supplied to AP, Patek Philippe, and Vacheron Constantin. Its 2022 replacement, the cal. 7121, is larger in every dimension, yet the case holds the same 8.1 mm height through reworked construction, and the date finally gets a quick-set after five decades of running the hands past midnight.
This 50th Anniversary version carries the openworked "50 years" rotor fitted only to watches built during 2022, rhodium-toned gray on the steel model, which makes it a one-year configuration of a permanent reference. At the top of this guide, give our authenticated 16202ST listings the scrutiny you would bring to a vintage 5402. The anniversary rotor is the collectible here, so the back of the watch deserves as much attention as the dial.

Final Thoughts
Pick the family before the reference. The Offshore Diver and Quartz 33 get you the octagon for the least money, and most buyers land on the 15510 or the 15550. The ceramic 34, frosted Mini, and anniversary Jumbo each take the 1972 drawing somewhere different. Decide the size first. The discontinued references and the 2022-only rotors exist only pre-owned, where condition and the caseback do the rest.
Every watch listed on Wristcheck is fully authenticated, transparently priced, and curated with collectors in mind. Whether you're searching for your first Royal Oak or need a second opinion before making the leap, our team is here to help.

FAQ Snapshot
Royal Oak pricing spans roughly a factor of five across the pre-owned range. Color-dial Offshore Divers and the 33 mm Quartz open it, the current 15510 and 15550 anchor the middle, and frosted gold Minis and the "Jumbo" Extra-Thin sit at the top, before complications.
The Royal Oak Quartz 33 mm is the most attainable watch in AP's current collection. Pre-owned widens the field: discontinued Offshore Divers like the 15710ST typically undercut it while offering an automatic movement and 300 m of water resistance.
Royal Oaks hold value through demand that has outrun supply for years. Steel core models trade steadily, while one-year configurations like 2022 anniversary-rotor watches carry collector momentum. No Royal Oak is guaranteed to appreciate.
"Jumbo" is the 39 mm case of the original 1972 ref. 5402, oversized for its day. The name now marks the extra-thin 8.1 mm flagship line, currently the 16202, which keeps the original's size, thinness, and Petite Tapisserie dial.
The 15510 is a refinement of the 15500, not a mechanical upgrade. Both run the cal. 4302 in a 41 mm case; the 15510 adds trapezoid first bracelet links, a Grande Tapisserie dial extended to the edge, and a repositioned date. The caseback rotor separates 2022 builds from later ones.
The current 41 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding runs an automatic movement at 4 Hz. That is the cal. 4302, with a 70-hour power reserve. The 37 mm uses the thinner cal. 5900, and the "Jumbo" Extra-Thin runs the cal. 7121 introduced in 2022.
The Offshore is the Royal Oak's 1993 descendant, designed by Emmanuel Gueit at 42 mm. Nicknamed "The Beast," it sold slowly for three years before defining the oversized sports watch. Offshore Divers and chronographs remain the most attainable routes into the family.
Tapisserie is the woven-looking grid of raised squares stamped into Royal Oak dials. It comes in three scales: Petite on the "Jumbo" and Mini, Grande on the core models, and Méga on Offshores. The pattern's depth is a quick authenticity check in person.
Quartz Royal Oaks trade on the case, not the movement. Demand for smaller references has pulled the 33 mm Quartz and the frosted Minis above their original retail on the secondary market, and battery service is the only running cost.
Frosted Gold is AP's hammered finish, created with jeweler Carolina Bucci in 2016. A diamond-tipped tool drives thousands of tiny indentations into the gold so it sparkles without set stones. It appears on Royal Oak models from the 23 mm Mini upward.
