Jaeger-LeCoultre

First founded by Antoine LeCoultre in 1833 (a descendant of French Huguenots), it would take another 104 years before the company, today known as Jaeger-LeCoultre, was formed.

French watchmaker Edmond Jaeger first encountered Jacques-David, the third generation of the LeCoultre family, in 1903, setting the tone for a long-term relationship that would eventually evolve into a formal merger in 1937. Hence, Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Today, the manufacturer still resides in the brand’s ancestral birthplace - the idyllic, forest-covered mountain range of the Vallée de Joux.

From humble beginnings as a pinion workshop in Le Sentier, Jaeger-LeCoultre has become arguably the preeminent force in mechanical watchmaking - even amongst those who don’t necessarily recognize its near-pervasive influence.

Responsible for such mechanical marvels as the near-perpetual Atmos clock and the popular Memovox alarm watch, the company is colloquially known amongst fellow industry insiders as “the watchmaker’s watchmaker.” That is because the brand has been responsible for producing over 1,250 mechanical movements since 1833, including the legendary caliber 920 - one of only a few ébauches to be used by all three “Holy Trinity” brands’.
