Learn the fundamentals of watchmaking and horology

Meet Our Writers

Aaron Voyles

An avid watch enthusiast for the better part of the last decade, Aaron started his Instagram page TimepieceHistory in 2019 as a way to create an educational space that would explore a variety of watches and their history - something he felt Instagram was lacking. Having fallen in love with writing about watches and exploring their mechanics, history and the market surrounding them, Aaron has become a full-time watch writer as a means to surround himself with the world of watches. It also helps give him an excuse to collect more watches than he probably should!

Felix Scholz

Felix Scholz started writing about watches way back in 2009, and since then he’s been covering the industry from Australia, on almost the opposite side of the world to Switzerland. He cut his teeth at Hodinkee, and has also written for GQ, Revolution, A Collected Man and more. He’s the co-host of OT: The Podcast, and has a profound appreciation for whacky, weird and otherwise under-appreciated watches.

Josh Rankin

The founder of Stetz & Co, Josh Rankin has been writing about watches since 2016. His interest in vintage horology was sparked by a chance visit to an antique shop in his youth. Over the years, he has developed an eye for intriguing, well-made timepieces that are off the beaten path. Besides watches, Josh’s other interests include art, architecture, automobiles, antiquarian books and classical literature.

Mike Ortolano

A passionate watch enthusiast, Mike Ortolano launched his online platform on horology – The Open Caseback – in 2019. Focused on independent watchmaking, Mike enjoys telling stories on unconventional topics, especially those centered around maverick creators and their fascinating journeys within the watchmaking industry.

Natasha Fernandes

Fresh into the world of horology, Natasha Fernandes began her career as a video journalist for China Daily in Hong Kong before shifting her attention to fashion with Hypebeast's Hypekids and Hypebae, and Hashtag Legend. She began her journey at Wristcheck in March 2022 and is captivated by the cultural and artistic aspects of watches, as well as the craft of watchmaking itself. During her time off, she's either at the beach, in the midst of the ocean, or completing her duties as a plant parent.

Neha S. Bajpai

A Hong-Kong based journalist, Neha Bajpai has been writing on luxury and lifestyle for over 15 years. She launched the Indian edition of WatchTime in 2012, where she worked as the founding editor and led the company’s foray into the digital space. She has also written stories on the evolution of watchmaking and the fascinating world of auctions for Revolution and A Collected Man. Currently working with Wristcheck as its Media Director, Neha loves globetrotting, reading and watching rom-coms in her downtime.

Randy Lai

Since 2017, Randy has racked up bylines in Hong Kong, London and Australia; with a recurring emphasis on mechanical watches and watch culture. Originally a men's fashion writer at Complex in the late 2010s, he now devotes his time to writing horological stories with a wide cultural bent, and is also an avid wine & spirits enthusiast. He has appeared as a guest on OT: The Podcast and in the Soho House series, 'Scent Stories'.

Ross Povey

Ross Povey, the founder of TudorCollector.com is regarded as the world’s leading expert on vintage Tudor watches. Although an expert on Rolex and Tudor watches primarily, Ross’s work covers the entire field of horology. He writes for and has contributed to some of the most influential publications, including Revolution, The Telegraph, GQ, Forbes, The Rake, Wristcheck, Bulang & Sons, Watchonista, Hodinkee, QP and is the co-author of the book Daytona Perpetual, a celebration of the automatic Rolex Daytona released through Pucci Papaleo Editore. Ross is Communications Director for Monaco Legend Group auction house and is also an international speaker, regularly hosting watch events in the UK and globally.

NK

Nick Kenyon

Nick Kenyon is the Editor of the Boss Hunting men's lifestyle publication and has previously worked as the Deputy Editor of Time+Tide, the Australian magazine dedicated to wristwatches. He has a passion for timepieces, especially those with a quirk or two that deliver more than meets the eye.

ZC

Zarah Cheng

Zarah Cheng is an editor with a decade of experience in the fashion industry. She first started her editorial career at Hypebeast and went on to spearhead the launch of Hypebae in 2016, serving as the platform's Editor-In-Chief for the next eight years. She first discovered her love for watches through her dad, who would always wear a Rolex Explorer II on the weekends and a Swatch "Neon To The Max" on the weekdays – an appreciation for duality that she takes with her even to this day. When she's not sharing her passion for vintage timepieces as Wristcheck's Contributing Style Editor, Zarah is a self-professed cat lady who loves drinking matcha.
