About the brand

Roger W. Smith

The Founder

Born with an innate curiosity and a love for intricate mechanical workings, Roger W. Smith’s fascination led him to deconstruct and reassemble an old clock at home. Recognizing his potential, his father encouraged him to pursue a horology course in Manchester. Inspired by his desire for more, he sought an apprenticeship with George Daniels but was declined. Undeterred, Smith began working on his first handmade timepiece—a tourbillon pocket watch—in a small corner of his family’s garage. Despite initial disappointment from Daniels, Smith was determined to improve. He embarked on creating a more complex timepiece, combining a tourbillon and a perpetual calendar. Recognizing Smith’s talent and dedication, Daniels became his mentor, inspiring him to pursue horological excellence. Under Daniels’ guidance, Smith created watch components from scratch, allowing him unparalleled control over craftsmanship, resulting in extraordinary watches that bear the unmistakable hallmark of Roger W. Smith.
