Kurono Tokyo

Kurono Tokyo is a Japanese luxury watch brand that blends traditional Japanese craftsmanship with contemporary design. Founded in 2017 by Hajime Asaoka, Kurono Tokyo draws inspiration from the city’s unique blend of modernity and tradition.

Among Kurono Tokyo’s most popular models is the Kurono Chronograph 2, a sleek and minimalist timepiece boasts a Miyota 9015 automatic movement and a 316L stainless steel case. The Kurono Tokyo San is another standout model, featuring a handcrafted dial with a unique wave pattern inspired by Tokyo’s iconic Shibuya crossing.

Kurono Tokyo’s dedication to quality is evident in each timepiece, which seamlessly blends traditional watchmaking techniques with modern technology. The brand’s watches are meticulously crafted using only the finest materials, resulting in timepieces that are both beautiful and functional.

About the brand

Kurono Tokyo

The Founder

A revered figure in the mysterious world of Japanese indie watchmaking, Hajime Asaoka started Kurono Tokyo as a means of bringing his thoughtful, heritage-informed aesthetic to an accessible price-point. A fine arts graduate in university, Asaoka taught himself the discipline of mechanical watchmaking beginning in 2005. Within four years he’d completed his first tourbillon.

Asaoka is a fully accredited member of the AHCI: Switzerland’s premiere body of independent watchmakers, including such names as Svend Andersen and Kari Voutilainen.

History

Established in 2019 by much-lauded independent watchmaker Hajime Asaoka, Kurono’s mission is to offer high-quality mechanical watches powered by Japanese-made movements - all at an affordable price.

Noted for their vintage proportions and distinctive ‘cylinder’ dials, Kurono timepieces now come in a range of guises - exploring everything from the classic chronograph complication to the romance of urushi lacquer.

Among enthusiasts, Kurono is also (in)famous for its distribution model: as in 2021, where collectors were given a 10-minute window to purchase the ‘Toki’ anniversary edition.
