Cabestan

Although established in 2003, Cabestan has started to take shape as an independent brand only in the last decade - the result of it being acquired (and managed) by Lionel Betoux.

The brand’s CEO and owner - who previously cut his teeth working in R&D at Rolex - has been hard at work restructuring Cabestan in the past decade: restructuring the company so that it has a “more client oriented” strategy going into the 2020s. Happily, Betoux aims to keep production numbers low - in line with the brand’s specialty in ultra high-end watchmaking. 

A real horological “insider’s brand” that has been around for over two decades, Cabestan’s core values are reflected in its name - a reference to the winch which enables consistent energy distribution in the traditional fusée and chain.

Known for extremely elaborate complications, cased in trapezoidal shapes often made from pure sapphire crystal or white gold set with hundreds of diamonds, all Cabestan watches pass through the hands of Eric Coudray - the renowned inventor behind Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Gyrotourbillon.

True to the “Cabestan” moniker, the brand’s flagship model is the Winch Tourbillon Vertical: a design that reimagines the fusée and chain in a modern, wrist-borne context.
