Seiko

The Founder

Kintaro Hattori, the founder of Seiko, was born in 1860 in Tokyo, Japan. With a deep passion for watches from a young age, Hattori began his career as an apprentice in a clock and watch repair shop at the age of 13.

At 21, he established his own watch and jewelry shop, which eventually grew into the renowned Seiko brand. In 1892, Hattori founded the Seikosha factory, where they produced wall clocks, pocket watches, and later wristwatches. Under his guidance, Seiko developed its first wristwatch, the Laurel, in 1913, marking a significant milestone in Japanese watchmaking history.
