One of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time, Tom Brady's wrist game has been getting stronger since his retirement last year. Right from vintage Rolex Daytonas to six-figure Richard Milles and ultra-rare Patek Philippes, here's a peek into his enviable collection

On or off the field, Tom Brady is a household name.Attaining legendary status as perhaps the most prolific player of the NFL, he simply could not stay away from the game having come out of retirement a mere 40 days after his initial announcement to step away. Now living as a civilian since his second and final retirement since February last year, Brady has wasted no time in delving deeper into his passion for fine wristwatches - having already been an avid collector for most of his career. In this segment, we celebrate the man and highlight a selection from his incredible watch collection.

Patek Philippe SkyMoon Tourbillon

Starting off with a bang, Tom was spotted sporting what appeared to be a rose gold version of the 5002 SkyMoon Tourbillon from Patek Philippe - differentiating itself from the catalog version in platinum. Described as a “monster” by viral Instagram / TikTok watch sleuth Mike Nouveau, this piece features both perpetual calendar and cathedral minute repeater functions in addition to a complete orbit display and sky chart on the reverse side. Debate rages on in the comments section as to whether this particular watch is in fact a piece unique - however, what is for certain is that the price tag for a timepiece will no doubt be in a league of its own.

IWC Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar Mojave Desert Ref. IW503004

Having been named an IWC ambassador in 2019, there have been no shortages of Big Pilot and Portugiesersightings (including a tasty Tourbillon Hand Wound Squelette Ref. IW546201) on the wrist of America’s favorite son. One of the highlights, however, has to be the Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar Mojave Desert Ref. IW503004 which is rendered in a monochromatic earth-toned ceramic case. Tom is seen flexing this piece in a casual tank top, showing off his own guns and all four sub-dials that make up the perpetual calendar function. The oversized crown found in all Big Pilot models is a signature design feature that is rooted in function - so that they could be wound by World War II pilots wearing thick leather gloves.

At the time of writing, this stealthy number retails for a cool CHF 42,000.

Richard Mille RM012 Tourbillon

Just when it seemed like Tom Brady was cementing a reputation for being a collector of more traditional-leaning timepieces, he throws a curveball (wrong sport) and shows off a very rare Richard Mille that was originally released in 2006 - back when demand for the brand was not what it is today. Made in a limited run of 30, the familiar tonneau-shaped platinum case houses a skeletonized movement which embodies the Richard Mille design language in its most distilled form. Wearing it in 2023 is perhaps his way of signaling to the world that he was ahead of the curve not only in football, but also the watch game this entire time.

Patek Philippe Ref. 2499

It seems that even seven-time Superbowl winners are not immune to the temptation of a cheeky mirror selfie.Back in September 2023, Tom snapped a photo of himself posing coyly in a dark suit - the smirk on his face likely indicating his awareness of how special the piece on his wrist is.The watch in question is none other than the mythical Ref. 2499 from Patek Philippe. Exceedingly rare, only 10 or so of this ultra-complicated reference were produced each year during its 35 years of production. This particular model is the successor to the Ref. 1518, faithfully updating the perpetual calendar and chronograph complications in a modernized case.Sotheby’s in Hong Kong auctioned a stunning double-signed Gobbi Milano variation for a whopping HK$60 million (approximately US$7.68 million) back in 2022. Curiously, the Ref. 3790 which halted production in 2004 only fetched a comparatively measly HK$1 million at auction despite being the heir-apparent to the Ref. 2499.

Brady captioned his Instagram story with “IKYKY”. We know, Tom. We know.

Rolex Daytona “John Player Special” and “Le Mans”

Tom Brady Rolex Daytona “Le Mans”

A collection is simply incomplete without a Rolex Daytona, or in Brady’s case, several Daytonas in both vintage and modern iterations. Perhaps the most memorable vintage example worn by the all-star quarterback is Paul Newman Daytona, Ref. 6241, affectionately known as the “John Player Special”. Marching onto the field at Gillette Stadium last September, Brady was being honored and befittingly chose to wear one of the rarest and most sought-after references - estimated to cost roughly US$1,250,000.The nickname for the model came about due to its black and gold color scheme which was reminiscent of John Player & Sons Lotus F1 car. In the very same month, Tom was spotted wearing the newly released “Le Mans” edition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This coveted Daytona features a 40mm white gold case, an alluring “reverse panda” dial and a matching white gold bracelet. The singular punch of red for the “100” on the tachymeter scale serves as a clever nod to the anniversary of the iconic endurance race.Good luck getting your hands on either of these.

Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711

It seems that anyone who's anyone has a 5711 on their wrist, and Tom Brady is no exception. In lieu of the turquoise dial Tiffany & Co. edition that has been spotted on numerous celebrities, Tom showed up to Michael Rubin’s white party with a dress-code appropriate Nautilus with a white dial. These command a hefty premium on the secondary market and generally sell for approximately US$100,000.With a few exceptions, Brady generally keeps it classic and this watch sighting serves a perfect example of his watch collecting ethos.Rarely will any superfluous gems be seen - just the best references in their purest forms.

Retirement is treating Tom (and his rapidly expanding watch collection) very well. Needless to say, this list only scratches the surface of his watch collecting journey and there are a myriad of impressive timepieces in his vault that have yet to be covered.

With the news of his former coach Bill Belichick departing the New England Patriots following an incredible 24-season and 6-title run, will Brady flip the script and start mentoring Belichick on which watches to invest in? Given his well known penchant for practical digital watches, we wouldn’t hold our breath.

The Next MVP?

Tabloid fodder involving Taylor Swift and her new beau Travis Kelce has reignited some interest in the sport of American football - mostly amongst casual spectators. Although he is currently reported to have a net worth that is eclipsed by Swift’s wildly famous cat, Olivia Benson, he does appear to have in his collection several noteworthy watches including a two Rolex Day-Dates (in gold and platinum, respectively) and a Submariner.

For the next installment, should we feature more watches from Tom Brady’s collection or shine a spotlight on media darling Travis Kelce?
