Greubel Forsey

Prior to partnering together on their own specialist watchmaking venture in 2001, Stephen Forsey and Robert Greubel both met whilst working at Renaud & Papi - the vaunted complications firm that was eventually acquired by Audemars Piguet in 2003.

During the early 2000s, Greubel and Forsey worked together on an array of “white label” complications for brands such as Richard Mille, through their own firm CompliTime - laying the groundwork for the duo’s own namesake brand, which has been headquartered in La Chaux-de-Fonds since 2004.

Named for its French and British co-founders Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey, respectively, Greubel Forsey is a high-end, quasi-independent watchmaker - revered by collectors for crafting watches that are less akin to simple mechanical timekeepers and more like “horological thought experiments.”

The brand debuted its first wristwatch in 2004 - the dizzyingly complicated Double Tourbillon 30° - and since then has refined a signature style that often involves “nested” tourbillons in a gyroscopic configuration amid layers of intricate dial work that are decorated with ornate hand-finishing.

Although Richemont has held a minority stake in Greubel Forsey since 2006, the company still operates independently of the group by its founders’ vision.
