Released in 2003 as a 50th-anniversary model, the Rolex Submariner ref. 16610LV "Kermit" is perhaps the most highly coveted of the 5-digit Subs. This extremely rare "Y Series" example is all the more valuable and sought after, as they were the very first series produced toward the end of 2003. Given its anniversary status, Rolex equipped the Kermit with a green anodised aluminium bezel, in what was their first time putting a colour other than black on a stainless-steel Sub. Featuring vintage aspects like hollow centre links, but modern elements too like solid end links and maxi-plot hour markers, the Kermit is a transitional timepiece that, for a lot of collectors, marks the end of Rolex' golden period. Given that the Hulk succeeded the Kermit in 2010, this is perhaps true given the Kermit's svelte case design was ousted for the maxi-case of the modern ceramic Submariner.
