About this watch

This discontinued Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is for collectors who love the original Speedmaster — and own it — but want a beefier and more practical version of it. The watch we have here features a large stainless steel 44.2 mm case, with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and a fixed stainless steel bezel with a black top ring showing the tachymeter scale. The watch comes in a black dial with luminous silver-tone hands and index hour markers. The beautiful timepiece is powered by the automatic Omega calibre 9300 movement offering a power reserve of 60 hours. More practical than its sibling, this model also features a date complication and has a water resistance of up to 330 feet/100 meters.

About the brand +

Omega

‘Omega’, the final letter in the Greek alphabet, epitomises the ultimate. Echoing their titular symbol, Omega’s timepieces hit all the right notes when it comes to what you’d want in a watch. Its origins date back to the mid-1800’s, and Omega has emerged over the centuries as a reliable, contemporary and highly coveted brand.

Louis Brandt founded Omega in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, before his sons relocated its headquarters to Biel, where the Manufacture is currently still based.

Omega has introduced a wealth of technical innovations over the course of its history, including the world’s first wristwatch with a minute repeater in 1892. Omega also pioneered the co-axial escapement, a significant horological advancement that paved the way for greater mechanical efficiency. It is a mechanism that remains widely implemented in watchmaking today.

Omega’s stalwart reputation for being practical and precise has been cemented by its dominant presence in world history: Omega timepieces worn by astronauts on NASA’s Apollo 11 expedition became the first watches on the moon. Omega has also been the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932.

A universal badge of sophistication, the quintessential Speedmaster Professional -- the “Moonwatch” -- and the Seamaster Professional are among the brand’s most popular models, with the Seamaster being sported on the likes of cinematic icons such as James Bond. World leaders such as Mao Zedong and John F. Kennedy have also been known to don Omega timepieces.
