About
Grand Seiko

The Founder

At first, not so much a brand as the pursuit of an ideal, Grand Seiko shares its founder with the broader Seiko family - Mr. Kinto Hattori. After establishing the company in the late 19th century, Hattori gradually integrated two specialist watchmaking factories: first, in Tokyo in 1937 and then in northern Iwate in 1959.

Since then, the two facilities have developed a healthy internal rivalry; and are now the custodians of Grand Seiko’s mechanical and “Spring Drive” timepieces - known as Morioka Seiko Instruments and Seiko Epson, respectively.
